Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde in Cancer

Most everyone has an opinion about Mercury-Retro cycles. At the very least, these cycles offer up one little annoyance after another. Sometimes the glitches feel like a lot.

Beginning early this year, many of us began to wonder if Mercury had become stuck in retrograde for good, like a broken record that can’t skip on to the next song. But the source of this new sense of accelerated and expanded requests for mind-shifting is occurring because the planet, Uranus, sending us signals from the actual Cosmic Mind, shifted gears in early spring and began to invite us to experience all of life from a different perspective. It seems a cosmic portal—beyond Mercury’s reach—has opened and humans are choosing whether to remain in the energetic dynamic of the past or find the courage to expand. There is no path into this new Time. We are the path. So how could this invitation into countless unknown experiences feel anything other than chaotic?

Early this year, I wrote that 2026 was going to have the feeling of a carnival, a time of unrelenting change occurring in every direction. Well . . . here we are. Creating a new human paradym. Sometimes moving forward with broken hearts or disheveled minds and sometimes moving with a sense that our minds are picking up remarkable new signals. It’s all happening at once so how could you not be occasionally overwhelmed by the constant requests for alternative perspectives.

All this is to say that we’ve entered a time in Time when the Cosmic Mind is encouraging the human brain to expand beyond its known neuro-pathways. It’s a lot to ask. So the usual Mercury retrograde monkey-business exists within the larger context of a universal-designed request to open the human brain to the potential offered by the cosmic mind.

Maurice Sendak could have been anticipating this 7-year-long Uranus cycle when he wrote: Let the Wild Ruckus Begin.

One more thing: back to Mercury. We know that this cycle occurs three times each year and it’s important to remember that each of these cycles occur through a different sign. This summer’s retro cycle is using Cancer as its lens. So much of the tension it’s creating, and most of the awareness bumps we’ll receive, will have to do with what it means to be part of a family, how we choose to value our homes, and most poignantly, what our hearts are longing to lean toward. Mercury in Cancer gives us many weeks to refine our emotional sensors as we notice how we nurture others and how we nurture our own hearts. And it exaggerates the power of our intuition.
