Autumnal Equinox

Autumnal Equinox

Deborah O'Connor

Equinox offers us a day to re-set our inner balance.

When I write these little notes to you, I never mean to suggest that life isn’t a complete carnival. And I hope that the words I share aren’t so ethereal that they fail to mean anything. It’s just that concrete predictions are meaningless to me. We’re figuring ‘it’ out with every new breath. Choices abound. There is no absolute solution.

Still. Twice every year, at equinox, the earth and the sun create a balance of light and dark that offers us a few hours to re-set our intentions. A day when we can tune into the core rhythm within us . . . the central forcefield of our soul which is never out of balance. Not for a single moment.

From the perspective of simple science, we’re experiencing a moment in time (here in the northern hemisphere) when the light we receive from the sun begins to give way to the rich darkness of night. And we feel our inner compass slowing, welcoming the season of harvest and then rest.

And from the perspective of the metaphysical, we’re experiencing a moment in time that allows us the room to re-member, re-aquaint ourselves with the wordless, invisible inner current that carries us; remind ourselves that life is long and our resilience is amazing.

This is only my perspective and I hope I never imply that I know what’s best for you: I feel as if balance requires me to understand imbalance, to make room every day for the chaos and the confusion and the joy and the sorrow and the magic available in every subtle moment of Time. So the blessing of the equinoxes seems a reminder to notice when I’m looking for a simple analysis, a simple solution; to watch for the times I’m in the ‘either/or’ mindset instead of allowing for the word ‘and’ to surface in my mind.

As our journey through Time challenges us with the imbalance of the world, the equinox helps us tune into the rhythm of Life at our core and feel the beauty of that inner music in harmony with our soul.

As we experience the subtlety of this shift, maybe we could allow for the feeling of slowing, quieting, honoring the incredible balancing act we pull of with every breath.

Wishing you a gentle and beautiful Equinox evening.

Deborah

What is above is as that which is below
To accomplish the miracles of the one thing.

each pointing to the beauty of what is transient
and given to us by grace.
