Aries New Moon

Aries New Moon

Deborah O'Connor

How do you want to use the soul sparks available to you?

Aries is the energy that ignites.

What a time to dive into something you’ve been waiting to begin. Now. This is a moon that stirs the fire in your belly so you can move forward.

And as we engage our ability to move forward, our moon helps us understand the essential difference between being pro-active rather than wallowing in the feeling that we are being held back by someone or something. The universal energy flooding earth is offering tremendous support for forward movement. All we need is the courage to launch.

A caution offers our Aries moon: Choose my high notes. Plenty of people opt for my low notes—rage and violence and finger-pointing. It takes great courage to rise out of the angry din when the world seems to be burning down.

Passion in action . . . that’s the high Aries road. But it requires us to see the shadows haunting our world and choose not to lash back with more aggression, to notice even how our minds can become aggressive with their busy thoughts.

One of the great dangers in a time like this is anger breeding anger. We need patience with ourselves as we figure out exactly how to focus our passion; patience is the key to using this powerful energy to support all that needs a hand at its back that isn’t pushing it down but pulling it back up.

This world is aching for people brave enough to use their courage in support of non-violence. There is nothing in the Aries script that demands we all turn ourselves into violent warriors. Aries offers up courage and passion and then we choose how to use them.

The trick with Aries is to learn how to defend our values without becoming defensive. A high bar but one critically important to empowering the kind of movement in our lives, in our world, that is meaningful and wise.

Our new moon reminds us that each of us has our very own unique part to play in the unfolding of our world. And our role may be a relatively quiet one. Still, peaceful behavior is not passive and there is a pure active quality in the heart’s ability to reach out toward anything that needs support.

I want to repeat that: Each and every one of us has a part to play in the unfolding of our world. Too often we let ourselves believe that we are just one tiny speck in a vast universe and we lose track of the relevance and subtle power in our every breath and baby step. Change requires all of us to show up.

Times like this are exactly when we need to buck up and find the spunk to stand for what we value, whether that’s feeding the birds or standing on the street corner with a candle or writing the next world-view-altering book or painting a mural on the side of the local bakery or reaching out to a lonely neighbor.

Movement. The courage to engage. Passion for life and all that it still holds out to us with such generosity and grace.

A deep deep bow to you and to all the light that you shed on our world.
